Airbnb Short let Property Rentals & COVID-19

covid-19 airbnb

Within the past 9 months, the entire travel industry and short let property rentals have been on the front line of the pandemic. Nobody was prepared for a global pandemic and it took almost every industry by storm with the travel industry on the front line. Bookings reduced by 90% with so many empty properties and livelihoods affected. We all felt this in a big way but we should also look forward to a better future.

After many lockdowns and hard times for almost every business especially in hospitality & leisure, a vaccine is just around the corner and things can only get better from here. We’re confident this is the start of a strong recovery, and we’re happy to get things moving again and welcoming guests back to homes and apartments across the country.

Short term rentals management will emerge even stronger than before and here’s why: Coronavirus is changing the way we travel. People are much more concerned about health and clean environments with distancing. Hotels are generally very busy environments with hundreds of people passing through. Serviced apartments and short term holiday homes are self-contained and are much more ideal for social distancing and hygiene. Also, with lock boxes and smart lock systems for check-in, the guest won’t need a meet and greet or reception upon arrival.

With jobs and workplaces changing and going through such a huge revelation. Working from home or even abroad is becoming a trendy new lifestyle. The airline industry will be giving great deals in 2021 to get people back on planes and will be advertising for extended city-breaks.

Because of this, another area which is becoming hugely popular is the demand for monthly rentals, which previously has been un-catered for. Long term lets and short term lets were big industries but now the demand for monthly or 3 – 6 month rentals is becoming much more popular with more people working remotely. THE BIG CHANGES FOR SHORT TERM RENTALS

Enhanced Cleaning Service

The big change in our industry will be enhanced cleaning. concerns about cleanliness were the biggest barrier to making a booking. So it’s vital that our cleans meet raised expectations. One change to world travel will be a demand for higher cleaning standards

Smart Locks & Automated Check-ins

With lock boxes and smart locks becoming more popular it’s going to be an industry-standard procedure for the future. Airbnb management companies will send guests passwords for check-in so they can let themselves in contact-free –

Medium Term Lettings

Here at The City Keys our in-house lettings management team are listing properties on Rightmove and Zoopla and will be advertising for medium and longer-term lets along with Airbnb & booking.com so we can optimize occupancy in these uncertain times.

The Bigger Picture

Making an accurate prediction on what’s going to happen next is not easy but with the vaccine just around the corner, we believe that there is a very big chance that the industry will be back and even better mid/late 2021 when travel restrictions are lifted. People are eager to travel and get back to normal so there is a high possibility of a big travel boom. Data shows that there is already a 6% increase in booking reservations for 2021 which is obviously great news.
